ABOUT US
AFRAKEN is an association for graduates who studied in France and are now residing or working in Kenya. It also includes current Kenyan students in France. The association provides a platform for members to interact and share ideas through social, cultural, educational, and scientific activities. Registered on December 2, 2011, under the Societies Act in Kenya, AFRAKEN has made significant progress in uniting members and formalizing the association, including electing its first official governing body in the same year.
It was founded in 2010 after the French Embassy in Kenya invited scholarship beneficiaries to launch the French Alumni Network. The event took place on June 21, 2010, at the residence of the French Ambassador to Kenya, Elisabeth Barbier. During this meeting, a research and scholarly affairs group was formed to discuss member involvement in promoting science in Kenya. Additionally, a sub-committee on legal aspects and relations with other institutions was created to oversee the formation of the Alumni Association.
