Sub-Committees
The AFRAKEN subcommittees are dedicated areas that enable members to share updates and resources.
Academic Sub-committee
The Academic Affairs Sub-Committee oversees research coordination, interdisciplinary activities, and mentorship within AFRAKEN. We also facilitate information dissemination related to publications, seminars, and conferences.
Finance Sub-committee
The Finance Sub-Committee is responsible for raising of financial support for all the association’s activities and supporting the Association’s Treasurer in the execution of their mandate.
Promotional affairs Sub-committee
The Promotional Affairs Sub-Committee deals in matters relating to AFRAKEN Brand management, Building awareness of upcoming AFRAKEN projects and Establishing good working relationships with partner institutions.
We also monitor effectiveness of promotional programs across the other committees on an ongoing basis.
Social Affairs Sub-committee
The Social Affairs Sub-Committee focuses on promoting French culture, language, and lifestyle within AFRAKEN. We enhance membership connections, coordinate cultural exchanges between France and Kenya, and maintain links with French alumni and institutions.
Workshops Sub-committee
The Workshops Sub-Committee oversees workshops organized by the association. We coordinate French Open Days with Campus France Kenya and arrange at least two thematic workshops annually.
ABOUT US
AFRAKEN is an association for graduates who studied in France and are now residing or working in Kenya. It also includes current Kenyan students in France. The association provides a platform for members to interact and share ideas through social, cultural, educational, and scientific activities. Registered on December 2, 2011, under the Societies Act in Kenya, AFRAKEN has made significant progress in uniting members and formalizing the association, including electing its first official governing body in the same year.
It was founded in 2010 after the French Embassy in Kenya invited scholarship beneficiaries to launch the French Alumni Network. The event took place on June 21, 2010, at the residence of the French Ambassador to Kenya, Elisabeth Barbier. During this meeting, a research and scholarly affairs group was formed to discuss member involvement in promoting science in Kenya. Additionally, a sub-committee on legal aspects and relations with other institutions was created to oversee the formation of the Alumni Association.
